Настоящее имя певицы: Ше́рилин Саркися́н Лапье́р Бо́но О́ллмэн. Её первая сольная запись была сделана под псевдонимом Бонни Джо Мэйсон, так как продюсеры считали, что имя "Шерилин" недостаточно "американское". - по признанию Шер, она неоднократно ложилась под нож: делала подтяжку лица, увеличивала грудь, а также выпрямляла нос и зубы. Самым тяжелым воспоминанием для неё остается операция на груди: "Это был настоящий кошмар. Они её всю искромсали, стало даже хуже, чем прежде".
